Does CBD Get You High?

Does CBD Make You High? Not too long ago, the cannabis conversation was completely dominated by stoner stereotypes and ‘get-high’ culture. CBD was a rather obscure and overlooked cousin of the better-known psychoactive cannabinoid, THC. In recent years, however, CBD has earned its own spotlight thanks to the increasing amount of credible cannabis research and societal acceptance. In more recent years, the amazing health benefits of CBD have been revealed and with these discoveries have come a lot of questions from the general public – not the least of which is “Does CBD get you high?”.

Let’s dig in.

Will CBD Get You High?

The short answer is no.

CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and though it interacts with the brain’s endocannabinoid system, will not cause the ‘high’ typically associated with cannabis. Early in the development of the cannabis industry, it was impossible to separate CBD from THC, meaning to receive the health benefits of cannabis, one had to accept the psychoactive side-effects, whether they liked it or not. But modern growing methods have allowed growers to develop cannabis plants that maximize CBD content while minimizing THC and even more recent processing techniques made it so that producers can virtually eliminate THC and other unwanted elements from the equation altogether, leaving consumers with completely isolated, pure CBD.

CBD products like oils, hash, and even flower provide some of the most beneficial aspects of cannabis with absolutely no ‘high’.

Why Doesn’t CBD Get You High?

In simple terms, the functions of the human body are largely driven by neurons that are powered when various compounds attach to receptors in the brain. Think of receptors like electric plugs. Many receptors match with cannabinoids that exist naturally both in the human body and in cannabis plants. Cannabinoids like THC fit perfectly into said receptors, and can therefore easily activate them.

CBD however, doesn’t fit correctly into these receptors, and as a result both blocks the admittance of THC (thereby decreasing its negative effects like anxiety or hyper-euphoria), and activating other receptors that work to regulate pain, depression, anxiety, and a range of other biological and neurological systems.

Suffice to say that CBD is a powerful tool for anyone looking for a natural, legal solution to pain, anxiety, depression, and a host of other conditions, and it provides its relief without unwanted side effects.
